The Verkhovyna Choir was formed in 1959 as a female vocal group, and in 1976, its membership was expanded to include male voices.
The Verkhovyna Choir specializes in folk, secular and sacred music from the Ukrainian choral tradition. The choir consists of more than 35 dedicated individuals, whose performances are always warmly received at various community celebrations, receptions, banquets, multicultural showcases, and their self-produced full-length shows. In recent years, the choir has produced 3 CDs.
Throughout its 60-year history, the choir has toured throughout North America and beyond, performing at festivals and in various Ukrainian communities. The choir, together with the Dunai Dancers, travelled to Brazil and Argentina in 2014, and in the summer of 2019 travelled to Georgia and Ukraine.
The Verkhovyna Choir continues to be actively involved in performing at various Ukrainian Community functions in the Edmonton area.
The conductor of the choir is Orest Soltykevych.
