RUTA

The Ukrainian vocal-instrument folk ensemble RUTA was formed in the year 2012, to date compiling a repertoire consisting of classic yet not-well-known Ukrainian folk songs as well as contemporary variations of timeless folk melodies. The harmonizing blend of these young women's voices with musical instruments produces a unique, rich, and colourful polyphony that has to-date captivated and consistently charmed Ukrainian-Canadian audiences at festivals and various cultural gatherings throughout Edmonton and central Alberta.

RUTA has performed at Heritage Days, The Beer Garden at U-Fest, Ukrainian Day at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, Baba's and Borscht festival, Freeze Festivals, Taras Shevchenko commemoration concerts, Vyshyvanka days at the Alberta Legislature, UNO Malanka, Ukrainian Women's Organization of Canada luncheons, other private functions, and Christmas carolling at community members' homes. RUTA holds rehearsals once a week in the Ukrainian National Federation building. Under the skillful musical direction of Dmytro Rusnak and administration of Alla Semenko, the young women of RUTA are able to pursue their musical passions, and they sincerely enjoy sharing them with audiences across the province.

We hope you enjoy RUTA's performance.
